Plastic from oceans will be used to make American Express credit cards: In the quest of finding something creative, American Express has found a way to use the plastic found in ocean and coasts to make credit cards, also reducing the environmental impact.
American express has partnered with Parley to carry out the initiative. Parley is an organization that has dedicated its whole life to end the destruction of world’s oceans. Such cards are yet in the prototype phase and would take another 12 months to roll out for public.
The company believes that the card is one of their steps towards reducing the dependency of the company on plastic. In near future, the company is planning to decrease the use of “virgin” plastic in credit cards,phase-out single-use plastic straws and coffee stirrers for all the major offices and the Centurion airport lounges worldwide within 30 days, and also shun the use of single-use plastic for Centurion Airport lounges by the end of 2018.
A comprehensive waste reduction strategy will get implemented with the aim of reducing single-use plastic and raising the rate of recycling in company’s operations globally by the end of the year.
American Express believes that our oceans play a vital role in our lives, the health of our planet and for the health of travel and tourism. It becomes crucial that awareness is spread to keep our oceans blue. The step to partner with Parley is the next step towards pursuing the large dreams and vision that company holds, and consequently back the communities and sustain the planet.
In words of American Express stakeholders, they are creating a symbol of change and inviting the network for shaping a blue future, which will be based on creativity, collaboration and environmental innovation.
